Magnet Information

Balboa Magnet welcomes approximately 170 new students each year. The student body is 748 strong, and families come from over 40 different zip codes in greater Los Angeles to attend Balboa’s peaceful campus in the suburb of Northridge. Bus transportation is provided by LAUSD to any qualifying student who lives more than two miles from the school. The school serves grades 1-5. Students must be verified by their sending school as either high achieving or as meeting the four criteria of a gifted learner.

Beginning the 2011/2012 school year, Choices brochure will no longer be mailed home.  Applications will be accepted electronically beginning November 1, 2011.  Parents whose children are currently attending LAUSD schools can sign up for an online account at: parentaccess.lausd.net   Parents will use access account to apply for the Choices program at : echoices.lausd.net. 
 


Please read the Choices brochure carefully before applying. Students are selected at random by the LAUSD magnet office based on the points priority system.
