Library

The Wonder of Reading Library

Balboa Magnet is very proud of its library. It opened in 1999 thanks to a generous grant from the Wonder of Reading Foundation. The library has approximately 11,500 books. There are six computers that can be used as a digital card catalog or for Internet research. A highly qualified full-time library aide oversees reading programs, literature purchases, and special events. Balboa Magnet is committed to maintaining a well-organized reading environment for students to enjoy as they discover new stories and information.

Special Programs

Reader's Theater

From time to time, students are invited to come to the library during recess to hear a parent volunteer read classic pieces of children’s literature.

Special Events

The library’s amphitheater is utilized for dramatic readings, and special events.

Wonder of Reading Volunteers

Based upon teacher recommendations, students who can benefit from reading reinforcement can participate in a reading program designed to encourage a love of reading. One hour a week, each student meets with a reading buddy in the library to read and discuss books. For more information visit the Wonder of Reading website.
